We caught up with Pip Millett to hear all the latest from her ahead of her upcoming show at Stylus on 3 November!
Q: What can we expect from your upcoming show at Stylus?
A: A creatively compiled collection of the music I’ve released so far as well as music from the upcoming album which comes out just in time for the show!
Q: What’s coming up for you in 2022?
A: I’m releasing my debut album, and then going on a UK and EU tour! After that, hopefully a good night’s rest.
Q: What, do you feel, has been your biggest success to date?
A: Ohhh… Musically I’d say I’m proud of all the things that I do… I couldn’t say one thing.
Q: How would you describe your music?
A: This one is hard to answer. I’ll go for honest and emotional. Sound wise – I don’t really know cos I feel a lot of my songs sound different which I enjoy.
Q: Which bands do you look up to? Who are your influences?
A: These vary depending on where I’m at in my life but at this current moment I’m influenced by Snoh Aalegra and Jazmine Sullivan. I look up to them because I think they’re strong women who seem to be quite consistent, and don’t give too much of themselves away which I respect.
Q: What’s your favourite single to perform and why?
A: I’d say at the moment it’s ‘Downright’. It always takes a minute to get used to singing certain songs and over the summer I’ve got comfy playing this one… It doesn’t feel old yet.
Q: What music are you listening to right now?
A: Ari Lennox on repeat!
Q: Where do you see your music taking you?
A: Meeting more new people, whether that’s new people on tour or new people to create music with.
Q: If you could do a collaboration with anyone, who would it be?
A: Me, James Blake and Nas on the same song.
